Sitting amongst the rugged seclusion of Gibbston Valley with sweeping views of the Crown Range, Toms Creek Residence is a generous and grounded family home that blends traditional forms with contemporary refinement.

While grand in scale, the design prioritises privacy, modesty and a quiet sense of comfort. Inspired by the modern Queenstown vernacular, the house unfolds as a warm Otago sanctuary where symmetry and proportion allow texture, pattern and detail to take centre stage. A natural and textural palette brings softness to every space, complemented by furniture and objects selected for their timeless tone and tactile richness. Steel elements, a subtle reference to the client’s background as a steel merchant,  appear throughout in sculptural forms from truss connections to the fireplace and kitchen island. The result is a thoughtful balance of presence and restraint, a home of quiet generosity and deep material interest where familiar forms are reimagined with precision and calm.
